8 July 2014 — BRIEF: Three major property industry bodies have signed on as Platinum Corporate Partners of Livable Housing Australia.

The Australian Institute of Architects, Property Council of Australia and Master Builders Australia have thrown their weight behind LHA, reinforcing their commitment to the Livable Housing design guidelines and the national livability certification program championed by LHA.

LHA, established in 2011, is working with industry, the consumer sector and governments to ensure new Australian homes are designed and built to be safer, more comfortable and easier to access.

“A livable home is simply good design,” said AIA chief executive David Parken. “We are proud to champion Livable Housing Australia to ensure our industry designs and builds homes that meet the needs of more Australians.”

Acting chief executive of the Property Council Glenn Byrnes said livable, versatile and adaptable housing needed to be the standard for new Australian homes, and that “industry-led action is the best way to achieve that goal”.

MBA chief executive Wilhelm Harnisch said the organisation had been working with LHA to encourage “voluntary industry acceptance”, with the corporate partnership the next step in its commitment to user friendly and “lifecycle sensitive” homes.
