BRIEF: More than 80 organisations from Australia’s community, housing and corporate sectors have signed an open letter to the prime minister Scott Morrison demanding greater investment in social housing.

The letter, coined under the Everybody’s Home campaign, highlights underinvestment by successive governments and suggests major investment in social housing will not only reduce the nation’s homelessness but boost overall incomes and jobs.

“In the lead up to MYEFO [the Mid-Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook, to be announced in January 2020], we encourage you to consider investment in social housing as a cost-effective way to create jobs and grow the economy, while at the same time reducing the rate of homelessness,” the letter concludes.
