10 October 2012 — Architects Woodhead have teamed up with Stockland, and main contractor Brookfield Multiplex, on the $400million Stockland Merrylands redevelopment, opened on 5 October. The new centre is the largest ever shopping centre redevelopment completed by Stockland, with construction on the four-stage redevelopment starting in 2007. The development is a 65,000 square metre, two-level retail redevelopment. Woodhead principal responsible for the project, Philip Bowen, said the project brought a continual series of challenging issues which were only resolved through intensive collaborations. He said Woodhead largely designed the new centre using building information modelling system REVIT. Stockland Merrylands has 59,000 square metres of retail space, three supermarkets, three discount department stores and 200 speciality stores, a 750-seat food court, more than 3000 car parking spaces and three public art installations by western Sydney artists.
