4 September 2012 — Melbourne’s fire stations are set to become more sustainable. A new Green Star rating tool, developed by the Green Building Council of Australia, will allow Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board to gain Green Star certifications for new fire station developments.  GBCA chief executive Romilly Madew said the MFB was setting new benchmarks for sustainability in the emergency services sector. MFB chief executive officer Nick Easy said the new tool “goes to the heart of what we are seeking to achieve in our corporate policies” to make fire stations more productive, and more environmentally and financially sustainable in the long term.
