10 October 2012 — Lane Cove Council has partnered with Australian Living to deliver the Sustainable Building Advisory Service. The free service provides home owners in the Lane Cove Local Government Area with sustainable renovation and new build advice. Home owners receive a one-on-one consultation with an experienced architect or building designer and a detailed report outlining sustainability initiatives that can be incorporated into the development. Australian Living’s Cameron Rosen said traditional building methods were no longer suitable for the future. He said homes incorporating energy and water efficient design could better prepare households for future utility price rises through the reduced running costs achieved from lower water and energy consumption. Sustainably-designed homes can also lead to improved occupant comfort by incorporating passive heating and cooling techniques, as well as improved occupant health, he said.
