6 June 2012 – Australasian Campuses Towards Sustainability has opened applications for the 2012 Green Gown Awards Australasia with a new focus on sustainability achievements.

The awards, in their third year in Australasia, recognise sustainability best practice in the tertiary education sector in Australia and New Zealand.

Three new categories  in the sustainability arena are: carbon reduction, skills for sustainability and social responsibility.

Wodonga TAFE’s Centre of Sustainable Skills’ Jennifer Klippel said: “here were many impressive success stories for sustainability within the education sector.

The awards ceremony will be held at Brisbane’s Custom House on 27 September at the 12th ACTS International Conference.

A first for the awards is a partnership between ACTS and the EAUC, UK, which will see the introduction of the International Green Gown Awards where Australasian and UK winners will go head to head in three categories.

ACTS president Leanne Denby said the international element was “an exciting next step”.
