20 February 2013 — German engineer Ridha Azaiz has fulfilled a 16-year dream to build a robot that restores the efficiency of solar power systems by simply cleaning the panels from dust and sand. In 1998, aged 14, Azaiz started tinkering with his invention and was chosen as part of the Youth Research Foundation. His cleaning robot Solarbrush made its way to Berlin in 2009, then California and now to the Middle East. Azaiz’s robot brushes sand and dust from solar panels. The robot won this year’s hy! Berlin Hardware Award and Azaiz has also been asked to attend the Code N-Awards on 7 March. The awards are presented by GFT chief executive officer Ulrich Dietz and supported by CeBIT and consultancy firm Ernest & Young.
