13 December 2011 – Aurecon, in joint venture with Hatch, was honoured for its engineering work on the $800 million Abbot Point coal terminal X50 expansion in Queensland at the Consult Australia awards for excellence ceremony in Sydney.

The Abbot Point X50 expansion was judged best project of the year and also won the resources and mining gold award.

Consult Australia chief executive officer Megan Motto said: “The number of alliances that were entered is testament to the growing sense of community and cooperation that is enhancing the industry’s ability to deliver impressive, high profile projects that truly support our nation and communities around the world.”

Other winning projects included AAMI Park, Victoria; the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge (Houghton Highway duplication); Adelaide Oval Western Grandstand redevelopment, Springvale road rail segregation, Cochlear global headquarters and the Australia Pacific LNG project environmental impact statement.
