25,000 new street lights for Brisbane

14 June 2012 – More than $42 million in grants to improve energy efficiency across community buildings and facilities has been announced by Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Minister Greg Combet and Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Parliamentary Secretary Mark Dreyfus.

Mr Combet said 63 successful round one recipients of the Community Energy Efficiency Program would co-fund projects to improve energy efficiency in community buildings including museums, indoor sports and aquatic centres, art galleries and libraries.

One of the big winners was Brisbane City Council which will receive a $5 million grant towards a large scale retrofit of 25,000 street lights. The council is co- investing a further $5 million towards the project.

Round One recipients are:

Ross House Association – Greening Ross House: A Place Where Community Groups Grow – Upgrade the building heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. Victoria. Amount requested – $395,500, total project cost – $806,000
